352- Increased podcasts due to virus crisis

In this episode of PodcastReporter.com, we discuss the increase and growth of podcasting during the crisis of the Chinese Wuhan Virus (aka covid-19 or corona virus).

From this repurposed episode from March of 2020, we noticed the surge of new podcast shows being created, as well as the amount of new episodes being published.

This discussion is timely and attests to the situation that stared all of us podcasters in the face during the period of March, 2020.

349- Possible future of podcasting and big money

This episode of PodcastReporter.com focuses on the theme that the podosphere and podcasting may be under the strength of big money, as the latter will try to steer the podcasting platform away from a level playing field — and thus, control the podosphere.

This topic set afire a storm of frustration and resentment from the keynote address by Hernan Lopez of Wondery at the recent Podcast Movement 2020 conference in Los Angeles.

As you will hear in this brief audio episode, a keynote speaker who knows not his audience and is not aware of awards that have been going on for 15 years in the podosphere may have lost his credibility.

So the argument continues from the hobbyist podcasters and indie podcasters that the playing field must remain level (as professed by Todd Cochrane in his New Media Show podcast), and that these “johnny-come-lately media with money” should not decide on the direction and gatekeeping of the podosphere.

344- Repurpose podcast content into published articles

In this episode of PodcastReporter.com, we discuss the strategy of repurposing your podcast audio content into published articles as a matter or re-using or repurposing your content from one medium to another.

The tool for doing this is highlighted by Podreacher. This would be especially attractive for the podcaster that does not have the time (or want to spend the time) to create transcripts or show notes, etc. The solution specified contains resources like copywriters that will create the published text that will do justice to your audio content.

343- Yet another podcast training program — StartAPod

In this episode of The Podcast Reporter, we deliver information about StartAPod — which is yet another podcast training course that shows you, as an aspiring or beginning podcaster, how to launch a podcast show.

This was discussed several weeks ago in an article of the Podcast Business Journal publication. The lessons and the “coming soon” modules are described from this repurposed episode from several weeks ago within this same podcast show.

The main themes are:

  • learn
  • share
  • earn

The goals are many and the vision certainly sounds as if they will, indeed, help aspiring podcasters.

However, my recommendations stay with Dave Jackson and his programs in The School of Podcasting — of which I have been a member and I have seen the value in his 15 years of programs in the podosphere.

342- Podcast birthday and a journey in podcasting by a luminary

In this episode of The Podcast Reporter, we discuss the anniversary of a birthday in podcasting, as well as the journey into podcasting which we describe.

The birthday which we discuss is that of the first podcast show and podcast episode from this podcast reporter (from 2006).

As you will hear in this audio episode, the learning curve for podcasting was helped by the book by Evo Terra and Tee Morris called Podcasting for Dummies. This book was a good start, but the online tutorial by Jason Van Orden called How to Create a Podcast was the final resource that helped me to create my first podcast called Arriba!

And finally, mentorship and instruction from Dave Jackson in his School of Podcasting allowed me to grow and attend podcast conferences — especially meeting Paul Colligan, Leo LaPorte, Tee Morris and Jason Van Orden.

And the final part of this audio episode describes the swift journey that resulted in myself growing into being a luminary (as referred to by Paul Colligan).

341- Vocal training for podcasters

In this episode of The Podcast Reporter, we deliver some information about vocal training for podcasters  — that is, training your voice for audio podcast production, with yourself as the talent.

We actually have a case in point (strictly my own personal opinion) of the voice of Jack Welch (recent CEO of General Electric — now RIP) and how what I considered poor quality led me to almost cancel my subscription to his podcast show from Business Week magazine.

I also deliver some background of my own vocal training through experience of public speaking and teaching — and how this helped me to develop my own voice and getting it ready to create audio content for podcasts.

Some vocal coaching suggestions are also delivered in this brief repurposed episode.

339- Podcast GOLD RUSH — some thoughts

In this episode of The Podcast Reporter, we focus on the concept of the rush to cash in on the “gold” from the popularity and the momentum of podcasts growing in number and becoming popular in the world of new media.

From the publisher’s viewpoint, the center idea of discoverability is discussed.

337- NACHO podcast marketplace

In this episode of PodcastReporter.com, we deliver recent information about the NACHO marketplace — which is a site for the buying and selling and trading of services and other offers and offerings for the podosphere.

As you will hear in this audio episode, this concept can be of particular value to new or aspiring podcasters. Whether it is for creating a podcast, or getting gear or selecting services — this marketplace was interesting when we first saw about it several weeks ago.
