Rob Greenlee — early podcaster and the Zune Marketplace
Rob Geenlee’s background started very early in radio broadcasting and the earliest times for audio creation, distribution and syndication with the systems that pre-dated podcasting.
After his early years of being involved with a system that turned out to be today’s Stitcher (from a relationship with “Melodeo Mobilcast”), he then joined Microsoft.
Note: As you will hear in this audio episode, It is strange that in 2003, Microsoft had a type of “podcasting” system called “Sync ‘n Go.” This synchronized audio and video shows with the early Pocket PC from Windows XP. However, the system was not pursued by the company.
While at Microsoft, Rob was the voice and the contact in charge of the Zune Marketplace, up until the first quarter of 2014. During the seven years he spent at Microsoft, he attended just about every Podcasting event, Podcamp, New Media Expos, South-by-SouthWest (SXSW), etc.
He was different than Apple during that time, for he actually answered his phone and gave you an email ID. He communicated with you and even included your feed to list your podcast in the Zune Marketplace — whereas Apple (the 800-pound gorilla) gave no one any contact information or communicated in any way with the podcasters once they submitted their podcasts to iTunes.
This year, Rob had joined Podcast One as the CTO (chief technology officer). He continues in that role, as marketer, technical evangelist and supporter of podcasting in this INDUSTRY (he agrees that it is an industry).
Rob Greenlee partners with Todd Cochrane — New Media Show
For the past several years, Rob had teamed up with early podcaster Todd Cochrane of RawVoice and the Blubrry network to be a co-host of the podcast show The New Media Show. It is still going strong, and the guests brought into the discussions in this show are relevant to podcasting, as well as other aspects of New Media.
He and Todd Cochrane will be doing a panel discussion at the upcoming Podcast Movement conference. Their experience and skills in communication have always been shown in the podcasting events, both as speakers and as sponsors of booths in the exhibit halls with their respective companies.

Rob sees the future as an approaching environment with three businesses and spaces:
– Radio; and
These media are bringing more advertisers to Podcasting, while the agreed-upon “renaissance” of podcasting is exploding by both the consumers and creators of content. He agrees that we are on a roller-coaster ride for the present, especially with the advent of Apple’s inclusion of the Podcast app in September 2014 in iOS8.
He also sees mobile consumption of podcasts being supported by automobiles, as well as convenient and automatic recognition of your favorite podcasts by smarter mobile devices and systems — as he stated, “it has to be as easy as FM Radio in your car; it has to be that simple.” He sees more and more content coming into the podosphere with new genres. In fact, he is doing that currently with his podcasting support at Podcast One.
