63- Your END GAME goals in Podcasting and New Media

Whether you are a podcaster, screencaster, video-content-creator, blogger or ebook author,  we explore in this episode the questions that you need to ask about your current and future “END GAME” goals in New Media, as well as the importance of periodic review and possible revision of them.

podcast_reporter_albumartwork1400

With cases in point and other examples, we investigate these questions (which we suggest that you ask of your New Media assets and deliverables):

1. MONETIZATION goals;

2. EDUTAINMENT goals (that is, Entertainment and/or Education);

3. Goal to build a loyal COMMUNITY;

4. What part of YOURSELF will you put into your podcast or screencast or videocast?

5. Is your goal to help COMMUNICATE and deliver your message?

6. Camaraderie goals from a common experience;

or

7. Goal to participate in a key EVENT within your New Media or Podcast space (e.g., International Podcast Day)?

In fact, we have one case-in-point video that is only a few minutes in length, but can give you the key END-GAME goal for Screencasters who want to raise the value of their skills portfolio to increase their brand, their exposure and their opportunity for success and monetization:

62- When is it time to close your podcast business? – Donovan Adkisson interview

When would it be time for a skilled podcaster to close down the entrepreneurship as a part-time entrepreneur who is trying to monetize his podcast while working in a full-time day-job? under what conditions?

And should this be a permanent termination of podcasting, or should it be just a hiatus or temporary shutdown until further notice?

This episode explores the STORY and JOURNEY of Donovan Adkisson during his years as a podcaster, with various shows. But his Odyssey is, indeed, a challenge. And we are sure that you will find it interesting, with all the details from his own recounting of his history — before, during, and after podcasting.

As you will hear in this audio podcast, he will explain why he is on hiatus — because, as he says, he still has the “itch” of podcasting and publishing his content.

Donovan Adkisson - imgThis is a full, unscripted and unedited interview — complete and unabridged. It was conducted over the Skype network, and we thank Donovan for opening up his story and sharing with us his situations, in the hope that they can help other entrepreneurs and podcasters who may be entering these tribulations at present — or who may find value in his lessons learned.

61- A DISRUPTION Entrepreneur – an in-depth interview with Tom Schwab

In this episode, we deliver a repurposed audio episode from The Struggling Entrepreneur Podcast Show. We have an in-depth interview with an Entrepreneur who is a DISRUPTER in the monetization environment in podcasting — mainly because he is committed NOT to be a podcaster. That is, he is committed to be a GUEST of podcasting interviews and create revenue streams in his entrepreneurship.

Tom Schwab and free bookThe entrepreneur is Tom Schwab. He has a business in which he leverages the results of his being a guest on podcasts:

– he turns his listeners into LEADS;

– he turns his leads into buying CUSTOMERS;

– he nurtures the customers into loyal ADVOCATES.

As you will hear in this audio episode, Tom is a Navy veteran.  Tom is a specialist in processes and systems. This has helped him to develop the content for his:

– services;

– ebook content; and

– online course content.

As you will hear, Tom has offered a 50 per cent discount for any of his premium offerings — that is, the online course and/or consulting services. All you have to do is mention to Tom that you heard about this in this podcast episode.

60- PODCASTERS SOCIETY program- an initial perspective

PS web site pageThis episode focuses on the launch and announcement of a new premium membership site ONLY for podcasters — but even more niche, PODCASTERS who already have a podcast published in iTunes(R).

The program is called PODCASTERS SOCIETY at podcasterssociety.com (2 middle s’s).

This premium offering and program comes to you via Daniel J Lewis, podcaster for The Audacity to Podcast.

As you will hear in this audio podcast episode is my initial perspective after I had joined the program. My reasons for joining and hopes for value are included in the audio podcast.

I consider this more of a “mentorship collaboration” program, with a site that provides webinars that are premium, as well as some guest webinars that allow anyone to consume the latter for free for a day or two only.

This episode describes, from my viewpoint, the value that is promised and the types of collaboration that will be available:

– networking;

– discussions;

– Q and A

FORA for different discussion items (n.b.: “forums” is not correct, since FORUM and FORA  are from the Latin word forum, whose plural is “fora” — very much like the plural of criterion is criteria. Sorry to be pic., but isn’t nice to know what is correct?);

[The good news is that there is NOT yet another private facebook group with this program!]

– Chat with the Slack program;

– Teams with intercommunication helping of each other;

and

– more focused expertise from Daniel J Lewis to the members in other avenues (e.g., via webinar Q/A, via discounts, etc.).

FORA with off-topic RANTThere is a replay webinar available to describe the program, along with the initial pricing that expires on 10 September 2015 at:

http://app.webinarjam.net/replay/17740/94bb05a7a1/0/lw7118838a1

Note: please excuse the 2 audio clips in this episode, which I included as part of “dry humor” for the content theme.

Finally, now that I have joined, I will be able to provide more details about this type of membership site and the value it has specifically for podcasters — and that this is NOT yet another program that teaches you how to podcast as a beginner.

58- Issues that can negatively impact your podcast and business- 2 case studies

podcast_reporter_albumartwork1400There are 2 case studies of actual podcasters who are Entrepreneurs that had to face the problems of health issues — including stress, tension, pressure, anxiety, frustration and “burning the candle at both ends” (leading towards burnout) — which negatively impacted their business, and their lives.

One case study is your Podcast Reporter.

The other case study is our respected Podcast Coach from the School of Podcasting, Dave Jackson.

Both have what we refer to as “wake-up calls.” Both had to deal with the negative impact of these issues. However, only one really facing the dilemma and avoiding the critical problems that can result for self, for business, for family and for life.

We hope that you yourself will be able to recognize the symptoms of being overwhelmed, where you are trying to do more than you have time to do, and thus have these issues.

The FREE resource that is mentioned is an online course that will help you:

– accomplish more,

– in less time,

– with better quality

– and with REDUCED STRESS.

It is a FREE course called Gain Control of Your Day, and you can get the free podcast audio episodes, along with the free workbooks and pdfs for the lessons at:

http://www.gaincontrolofyourday.com/podcast

and start learning from episode 14 and go to episode 59 to get all the free materials for the course (you can get to the archives and start with February, 2013).

57- Feedback from PM2015- NOT starting a podcast

Tom Schwab - not starting a podcastDuring the keynote presentation of the Podcast Movement 2015 conference, the audience was asked to demonstrate who has NOT started a podcast. Although a great amount of the people attending the keynote that responded to that question DO intend to start their own podcasts, there are those who say that they WILL NOT START a podcast.

Case in point is Tom Schwab, who is @TMSchwab on twitter.com. He is an attendee who explains his take-away from 31July2015 — that is,  of NOT starting a podcast.

However, it is NOT because he does not feel that podcasting has no value. He is logical and truthful for a well-thought reason — YOU MUST HAVE THE CORRECT RESOURCES TO PODCAST (in this case, TIME is the issue). My respect for this businessman is enhanced, because he obviously wants to provide a QUALITY deliverable to his potential audiences.

Instead, he is going to focus on BEING A PODCAST GUEST, so that he can be promoted and grow his audience of listeners who hear him on other people’s show, and thus grow his leads and prospects, and thus improve his business and exceed his objectives.

In these few seconds, an attendee gives an appropriate reason for not starting a podcast — he has the right idea.

55- Adam Curry – PODFATHER – accepts Hall-of-Fame Award at PM2015

Adam Curry as HOF Inductee - 31July2015Although I cannot physically attend the Podcast Movement 2015 conference in Fort Worth, Texas, I was able to get both the audio and video content of the acceptance speech by THE PODFATHER, Adam Curry, at the evening’s first ever Podcasting Hall of Fame Awards ceremony on 31July2015.

Our thanks to Gene Naftulyev for publishing a twitter tweet that carried the link (see below for tweet link) for the video.

Here, you have both the audio and video portion.

__________________________________

So, what is Adam Curry’s biggest “take-away” from podcasting?…

“To be successful [in podcasting], you have to connect with your audience.”

As you may be aware, Adam Curry started the Daily Source Code (still in iTunes(R)  podcast in the early days over ten years ago, and he currently podcasts his own show called No Agenda, with his co-host John C. Dvorak — aka “THE BEST PODCAST IN THE UNIVERSE.”

54- Podcast Movement 2015 Conference – Some reflections

podcast_reporter_albumartwork1400In this episode, there are regrets and apologies, along with reflections from this Podcast Reporter.

Regretfully, I will not be able to attend the Podcast Movement 2015 event due to major health issues, which have been caused by complications resulting from Agent Orange (the toxin used in Vietnam, and which negatively affected the combat infantrymen on the ground when they were in the jungles and rice paddies and mountains in Vietnam and Laos).

So this episode covers the following topics in the theme of REFLECTIONS:

– Having to miss the networking, personal communications and re-energizing and reinforcing the relationships I had with various podcasters that have become good acquaintances and friends. Among them is one of the co-founders and organizers of the Podcast Movement Conference, Gary Leland (he had a booth in 2014 with the old “Podcast Pickle” who is now re-branded as the “Podertainment Pickle”) — for Gary had a booth for his Podertainment Magazine in the exhibit area:

– Having to cancel my live interview scheduled on 31July2015 with Doug Foresta of the CoachZing podcast show;

– Having to miss Paul Colligan’s meetup;

– Having to miss the workshops which I had signed up for earlier;

– Having to miss the exhibits and announcements;

But most of all, HAVING TO MISS THE PODCASTING HALL-OF-FAME ceremony for the inaugural inductees, as well as the Podcaster Awards ceremonies — scheduled for 31 July 2015.

In speaking about the Hall of Fame ceremony that is scheduled for 31 July 2015, the first inductee is the “PODFATHER” himself — Adam Curry.

Adam CurryAs you will hear in this audio episode, we also cover the question of whether the Podcast Movement conference can repeat the success of 2014.

In addition, there is some feedback from other podcasters about the selection of speakers and keynote speakers for this event.

Finally, we recommend that you listen to the following podcasters and their shows AFTER the conference to get summaries of the event and their perspectives:

Paul Colligan and his The Podcast Report;

Dave Jackson and his School of Podcasting;

Todd Cochrane and his New Media Show;

Adam Curry and his No Agenda Show;

Daniel J Lewis and his Audacity to Podcast show.

53- Considerations for PODFADING – with cases-in-point

screncastartwork2048

Although we like to think positively and aspire that our podcast shows will go on forever and grow forever, we take a look at the reality of the environment in podcasting.

In this episode, we review some of the reasons for considering podfading your podcast show — all the way from burnout to a “fade-out, then fade-in” to begin another new podcast show, but with revitalized passion. Many of them deal with real-life situations and cases-in-point.

Some of the reasons given are:

-.Complications due to Health or age

– Too many podcast shows where you cannot do justice to them;

– Podcasting isn’t “fun” any more;

– Passion is fading;

– Just want podcasting to be no more than a “hobby”;

– Loss of your co-host or JV Partner;

– Decline of interest from your listeners or community, thus a decline of listeners;

– Cannot meat business objectives when podcasting is your business;

– Loss of money in podcasting (“don’t throw good money after bad”)

– Need to pivot to a new strategy, product, offering, technology or service for your business;

– You need a break, a rest and recharging of your “batteries”;

Here are some of the resources which we mentioned in this podcast:

Daniel J Lewis of www.theaudacitytopodcast.com

Paul Colligan of www.paulcolligan.com and www.ThePodcastReport.com;

51- Differentiating your Business in Podcasting “saturated” markets- lessons learned with case studies

A major decision for most entrepreneurs is the one to enter a market that has a reputation of being “saturated.” The cause could be one of many reasons.

In this Bonus episode, we look into issues and concerns for the entrepreneur to either enter or continue in a saturated market — and we do so from real-life case studies of small businesses.

The first case study examines the risks and the suggested recommendations for looking at the product, service, offering or brand entry into a “saturated market.” These may include:

– confirming with research that you have a greater value offered to you target audience than what is currently available from competitors (again, a new added value at the right time, right place and right “formula”);

– confirming that there is an abundance mentality in the market to lower your risk of entry; and

– Your target audience belongs to a “niche” or “super-niche” of potentially loyal fans that have the NEED and WANT of what you are offering to deliver in value (or products, services or offerings or courses, etc.) and are passionate about the niche issues; or

– Your target audience is a proven one in the niche, and you may already have them as known followers for your current communications to them;

…and other factors.

Such is the case of the new course to be launched (along with its existing podcast show for creating awareness and exposure) that is called Podcasting for Screencasters.

Podcasting4Screencasters screen shot epis 3

As part of this entrance into this saturated marketplace of podcasts that teach their target market how to podcast, you may find out more about the free webinar at:

http://www.podcastingforscreencasters.com/webinar

______________________________________

The second case study concerns the decision to REMAIN in a market that is “saturated.” It is the 8-year old podcast show called The Struggling Entrepreneur — an interview-based show with entrepreneur guests, as well as other business content for the entrepreneur.

The reasons for continuing are given, and they include some of the following:

– You may already be getting great feedback and actions from your target audience, expressing their knowledge, their liking you and trusting you in various ways, especially communication with you;

– You may already have had some measure of “success” (which is defined differently for every entrepreneur) with your target audience, and your main objective would be to KEEP your current audience, while GROWING it with planned marketing strategy that turns into execution of a marketing plan for the marketing tactics; and

– Your objective may be to complete the path steps of

. Subject Matter expert ==>

.      .Problem-solver for your niche audience ==>

.           .Trusted advisor with proof of reference sales ==>

.                    .THOUGHT LEADER for your target audience.

SE screen shot

We also highlighted certain “take-aways” from this episode, including:

– asking yourself  (with a documented proposed plan of executing the four steps to success)  how YOU can become a Thought Leader.

– Confirming what is your documented of measure of success; and

– Documenting a planned exit strategy with alternatives, in case you do not succeed in this saturated market within a planned period of time.

Finally, we did mention another show which we referenced —  it was Paul Colligan at www.ThePodcastReport.com.
