97- Podcast 2030 show interview and Details of Adam Curry

In  the last episode, I paid thanks to those with whom I had great relationships in the area of podcasting. However, one key person who influenced me greatly was not mentioned. The reason was that this individual deserved an entire episode for me to thank him immensely.

This post is a tribute to Adam C. Curry, known better in the podosphere as the PODFATHER.

The last time that I saw Adam and spoke to him briefly was in person at the 2015 New Media Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. But my last one-on-one  meeting in person (for 4 hours and lunch) with Adam Curry was in Austin on 5 February 2014. I had also chatted with him in several of his previous Meetups in Austin, as well as discussions with him and fellow podcaster, Todd Cochrane, in Austin.

Now, I would like to pay a tribute to Adam for his contributions to the podcast community and industry, as well as for the value that he has delivered to myself and many other podcasters after the publication of his show, NO AGENDA at www.noagendashow.com, after its 1000th episode — a true milestone of longevity.

Adam has provided over 1000 episodes of his podcast show with his co-host, John C Dvorak. The thousandth episode was produced and published on 18 January 2018.

Besides having been one of the first honorees to be inducted in the Podcasters Hall of Fame at Podcast Movement in 2015, Adam has received international praise and recognition. On December 29, 2017, the Dutch broadcaster AvroTros announced that the 2017 ‘Marconi Oeuvre Award’ will be given to Adam Curry.

As you may be aware, Adam’s creativity is constantly working on new ideas with an enthusiasm that is positively catching.

Case in point: in 2014, Adam had discussed a topic about the upcoming events of the year 2030 and why that should be of concern to us, as well as its own importance. As a matter of fact, I had started a podcast show about the 2030 topic, and I had recorded in February of 2014 the first episode of that podcast show. However, the podcast show never did launch, as the enthusiastic idea was drowned in all the other events, occurrences and topics of 2014.

However, the link below will take you to the interview with Adam Curry that was slated to be the first episode:

Interview with Adam Curry in 2014 about the planned 2030-Podcast show.

(by the way, the2030club still exists at the link of www.the2030club.com)

(the Interview was done on 5February2014, but the show did not launch)

For another interesting interview with Adam Curry, please refer to Todd Cochrane’s podcast episode dated 21 April 2017 from the show called Podcast Legends, with the title “Adam Curry – The Podfather” (they discuss Adam’s new product and details of its benefits).

71- Perspectives on Podcast Conferences – 2016 and beyond

This end-of-year episode delivers a Podcaster’s perspectives for Podcast Conferences for upcoming 2016 — and beyond.

Podcast conferences 2016ff

The eight main “conferences” or “meetings” for Podcasters (and, to some extent, New Media Professionals) are:

New Media Expo (aka NMX)

Podcast Movement (aka PM)

Consumer Electronics Show (CES)

National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB)

Podfest Florida or Podfest Tampa

LA Podfest

Podcamps

Local Podcast Meetups (via www.meetup.com)

Each of these are mentioned. There is also a backstory to the change of preferences for the value of these conferences, and a hint of some issues that may be haunting some of the more successful shows that delivered value at one time to the podcasting community.

From the large national conferences (like NMX and Podcast Movement), we also deliver some perspectives on the REGIONAL and local podcast conferences, meetups and Podcamps. I myself will deliver my perspectives, since I have been a speaker at the main national conferences, as well as a Podcast Meetup Organizer and a speaker at many Podcamps.

Finally, I apologize to all my listeners, since I had a forced absence due to not only technical problems and a failure and replacement of my main system for podcasting, but also for being caught up with a bed-ridden flu and bronchitis that rendered me unable to deliver any value to you, my audience.

To all of you, I wish you a happy holiday season and a bright next year for your success as a New Media Professional and podcaster.

65- For Intl Podcast Day – what about a day for New Media or Content Creation

IntlPodcastDay2015This brief BONUS episode is one to celebrate the second annual INTERNATIONAL PODCAST DAY — but it is also to reflect and ask the question about expansion of the celebration to encompass ALL New Media and/or ALL Content Creation.

Many of the podcasters today are not just podcasting alone — many are screencasting, blogging, videocasting, YouTube-ing, authoring, scoping, blabbing, etc.

The question discussed draws an analogy from 2005 of the original Portable Media Expo of the desire for a small, closed community limited to one form of content creation  and distribution — i.e., podcasting. We can relate that with the opposite desire to EXPAND the celebration and community to include the other forms of content creation and distribution in the NEW MEDIA space — i.e., New Media Expo or NMX.

This reflection tries to address the reality that many podcasters are now expanding into these other forms of New Media and they are increasing their skills and making more value of their “toolkit” that they can offer to customers and clients, as well as to the New Media Community.

Case-in-point is the podcast show that expands the topics, training, education and courses into another area of New Media:  i.e., Podcasting for Screencasters and Skills in Screencasts and Podcasts.

In any case, we wish everyone in the New Media Community a Happy International Podcast Day 2015!

33- Colligan’s upcoming book and Podcast Virtual Conferences and Virtual tickets

In this episode, we have two topics:

I. HOW TO PODCAST — A Book by Paul Colligan coming in February of 2015

Paul Colligan pre-launches his new book called “HOW TO PODCAST: 4 Simple Steps to Broadcasting Your Message To Smartphones, Connect Cars, Tablets, Televisions And More”

Paul-Colligan-book-for-2015-2014-12-20_13-23-16Paul is encouraging podcasters to submit the methods which they use to create and publish and promote podcasts. He is basing the first 4 chapters of his book on his 4 simple steps:  (1) Create digital media; (2) Put it online; (3) Get it podcast-ready; and (4) Tell the world.

And the next several chapters will deal with case studies of podcasters (who submitted their workflow details to Paul) and how they created and published their podcasts.

You can find out more details at www.ThePodcastReport.com.

Refer to episode 26 and 27.

The book is going to go live in February of 2015. There was a special price of 99 cents in December when the announcement was made. Paul mentioned that he was going to offer the book at special prices again in the future. And in some live events, Paul intends to deliver the book for very little or no charge.

Of course, this reporter will review the book when it is published, and there will be a special episode that will deliver the information to you, our audience.

II.  Podcasting Live Conferences, Virtual Conferences and Virtual Tickets

The second part of the episode deals with the description, comparison and contrast of the following types of podcasting events:

(1) Live inbound conferences:

Examples are:

New Media Expo (NMX) and Podcast Movement

(2) Live inbound unconference:

Examples are:

PODCAMPS, FreelanceCamp, WordCamp, CareerCamp, ProductCamp, etc.

(3) Live Virtual Conference:

An example is:

Business Podcasters Summit

(4) Live Virtual un-conference

PODCAMP CITY ONLINE, 2007

(5) Virtual ticket:

Examples are:

New Media Expo (NMX)  and  PODCAST MOVEMENT

As you will hear in this podcast episode, when you, as a podcaster, prepare to deliver a presentation at a live event that provides recordings later on in the form of a virtual ticket, you should prepare for delivery to both the live audience sitting in front of you in the breakout session room; and also to the virtual ticket audience that will consume the video of your session several weeks or months later.

29- Perspectives on upcoming Podcasting Hall of Fame

This episode discusses perspectives from THIS REPORTER’S OPINION on the criteria for nominating and selecting worthy candidates for the upcoming Podcasting Hall of Fame to be announced at NMX (New Media Expo) in April of 2015.

Podcasting Hall of Fame announcementAs you will hear in this audio episode, we thank Rick Calvert for making this event possible.

However, this reporter’s opinion discusses aspects and recommendations for focusing on contributions to the podcasting industry/community that have made an impact for the masses to enter and succeed in podcasting.

This goes way beyond any individual’s achievements or accomplishments for just gaining wealth for personal benefit, or for getting zillions of downloads for personal recognition — without any real benefit to the podcasting community or for helping to move podcasting in a growth direction.

In fact, as you will hear, we feel that the only 2 real individuals that merit Hall of Fame induction at this time would be Adam Curry (the “PODFATHER”) and Dave Winer — that is, those who made podcasting possible for us over 10 years ago (not just those who recently came on the scene to either make a ton of money or get a ton of downloads).

The recommendation is that the nominations and selections should include products, tools, programs, companies, offerings and resources that have made such an impact in podcasting — and which were given to the community as a contribution FOR FREE.

These would include the Levelator (intially from Gigavox in 2006), the PowerPress player (from Rawvoice) and Audacity.

There are other resources that have also contributed to podcasting that could also be mentioned — and probably will be soon discussed.
