0B- Retrospective – Podcast monetization – an interview

During my hiatus, I wish to present this bit of evergreen information about podcast monetization (from 2014), which provides an interview of Fred Castaneda, and which is conducted by Doug Foresta of the Coachzing Show (although Doug himself is on hiatus at present).

Here are the show notes from the interview that was previously conducted by Doug Foresta:

The CoachZing Show is a podcast series, available on iTunes(R) and other directories, which delivers interviews with entrepreneurs, coaches, therapists, authors and speakers — to discover tips and techniques for effective content creation and marketing. It is available on iTunes and other directories, and it is a free podcast show.

Doug Foresta is the interviewer and host of this podcast show.

In this episode, we have a repurposed interview — as it is originally published by CoachZing.com. The reason why we deliver it in entirety and unedited as the final mp3 file published by CoachZing is that the person being interviewed is Fred Castaneda, who is also the host of The Struggling Entrepreneur podcast and the Podcast Reporter podcast (just 2 of the current active 8 shows).

As you will hear in this audio episode, Doug discusses the potential mistakes of content creators in the world of New Media and podcasting. He also discovers some of the strategies for entrepreneurs to make podcasting a successful tool as part of their marketing. They can do this by generating revenue streams by adding podcasting to their marketing.

We thank Doug for his interview and we know it will provide value to the aspiring entrepreneurs who deal with content creation.

63- Your END GAME goals in Podcasting and New Media

Whether you are a podcaster, screencaster, video-content-creator, blogger or ebook author,  we explore in this episode the questions that you need to ask about your current and future “END GAME” goals in New Media, as well as the importance of periodic review and possible revision of them.

podcast_reporter_albumartwork1400

With cases in point and other examples, we investigate these questions (which we suggest that you ask of your New Media assets and deliverables):

1. MONETIZATION goals;

2. EDUTAINMENT goals (that is, Entertainment and/or Education);

3. Goal to build a loyal COMMUNITY;

4. What part of YOURSELF will you put into your podcast or screencast or videocast?

5. Is your goal to help COMMUNICATE and deliver your message?

6. Camaraderie goals from a common experience;

or

7. Goal to participate in a key EVENT within your New Media or Podcast space (e.g., International Podcast Day)?

In fact, we have one case-in-point video that is only a few minutes in length, but can give you the key END-GAME goal for Screencasters who want to raise the value of their skills portfolio to increase their brand, their exposure and their opportunity for success and monetization:

62- When is it time to close your podcast business? – Donovan Adkisson interview

When would it be time for a skilled podcaster to close down the entrepreneurship as a part-time entrepreneur who is trying to monetize his podcast while working in a full-time day-job? under what conditions?

And should this be a permanent termination of podcasting, or should it be just a hiatus or temporary shutdown until further notice?

This episode explores the STORY and JOURNEY of Donovan Adkisson during his years as a podcaster, with various shows. But his Odyssey is, indeed, a challenge. And we are sure that you will find it interesting, with all the details from his own recounting of his history — before, during, and after podcasting.

As you will hear in this audio podcast, he will explain why he is on hiatus — because, as he says, he still has the “itch” of podcasting and publishing his content.

Donovan Adkisson - imgThis is a full, unscripted and unedited interview — complete and unabridged. It was conducted over the Skype network, and we thank Donovan for opening up his story and sharing with us his situations, in the hope that they can help other entrepreneurs and podcasters who may be entering these tribulations at present — or who may find value in his lessons learned.

45- Podcast monetization strategies — an Interview repurposed

In this episode, D’Vorah Lansky interviews Fred Castaneda from her podcast show called Podcasting Success Secrets.

FC-for-DVL-interview-2015-03-31_7-03-10We have repurposed the audio interview and some of the content from the podcast show notes.

Here are some of the key points from the interview, as delivered by D’Vorah Lansky’s own Show Notes from her podcast show at www.PodcastingSuccessSecrets.com:

Screencasting and Podcasting

  • Screencasting is the technology to capture what’s on your computer screen and save that as a video file.
  • The 4 General Types of Content
    • Audio – narrating, explaining, music, intro-outro, etc.
    • Video –
      • Live action – created with camera [FC note: commonly referred to as “full-motion video”]
      • B-roll – old video files rolled together
    • Presentation slides – sequence of slides delivered via PowerPoint or a similar software, incorporating pictures, words and animations to bring a story to life.
    • Screencasting – showing people how you do something directly on your computer screen. Gives them a peek into the “back office.”
  • Combining the four types of content via a software like Camtasia creates visually compelling content that tells a story and makes people feel more comfortable buying your product or using your service.
  • Itunes is now displaying Video podcasts with a video symbol by it. Sometimes these podcasts are getting more attention than traditional audio only podcasts. Having audio and visual options makes your show attractive to people who like to listen as well as people who want to watch programs and increases your audience.

Fred’s Takeaway Tips for New Podcasters

  • Get your Skills Up and Running
  • Do It Because You Like It and Want to Have Fun
  • Decide Who You Want As Mentors, Ask Them and Stick With Them
  • Decide What is Your Passion and Go With It

38- Virtual Event- Business Podcaster Summit – a review

In this audio episode, we deliver a review of the Business Podcaster Summit online conference — aka a Virtual Event — for podcasters who want to establish podcasting as a business or take their podcasts to the next level in monetization or profit strategies.

 As you will hear in this audio episode, this virtual event took place during the last two weeks of January, 2015. With a dozen sessions delivered by speakers chosen by two of the folks that started Podcast Movement (the conference), the topics ranged from Building Podcast Communities and Creating Mailing lists via Podcasting to Crowdfunding — and more.

I myself attended the conference online during the live presentations. I tried to get some of the materials, slides and download the audio episode and chatroom transcripts — although some of these were not readily available, even after a few days of the live session.

Overall, I feel that the summit provided great value to those who could not attend the previous Podcast Movement conference (or get the content from the virtual ticket) — as most of these selected speakers also spoke at the August, 2014, conference (many times with the same or related presentation). In fact, this review highlights what I considered the top 3 sessions.

Of course, even though there were only 12 sessions of 50 to 60 minutes each, an attendee always wishes that there had been more sessions — especially from well-known business successes and thought leaders with monetization in podcasting, such as Paul Colligan, Daniel J Lewis and others (whose absence was considerably noticed by experienced podcasters).

Indeed, for those who could not attend the live sessions, the replays have a web page for those paying customers — and as soon as they are available, they will add more value to the podcasters who want to consume the content from this virtual event.

It will be interesting to see the content and sessions from the upcoming Podcast Movement 2015 conference and the subsequent Business Podcaster Summit.

Bonus Episode 6- Paul Colligan on Apple’s announcement and a FREE webcast

This brief episode will focus on 2 items:

– What the Apple(R) announcement means to podcasters today; and

– An upcoming free webcast on how to podcast.

These are both from Paul Colligan — a name who is a luminary, thought leader and pundit in the podcasting space, as well as the YouTube video space. He has his own podcasts in the podosphere — in addition to his current podcast show, Thinking Out Loud, he has a recent addition called The Podcast Report (not to confuse it with www.PodcastReporter.com).

Episode13- The Podcast Report

1. The Apple(R) announcement of 9 September 2014

In episode 13 of Paul Colligan’s The Podcast Report, we get Paul’s perspectives on what the April 9, 2014, announcement from Apple(R) means to podcasters, especially in the area of monetization. He focuses on getting away from the old method of making money with your podcast, and he has cases in point with today’s celebrities.

To get the 10-minute summary and perspectives from Paul, you can go to the web site of www.ThePodcastReport and listen to episode 13 — or better yet, we encourage you to subscribe to his podcast on iTunes(R).

2. A FREE Webcast from Paul Colligan on 30 September 2014

In his weekly New Media “newscast email” called HEADS UP TUESDAY, Paul Colligan announced that he will be doing a FREE Live Webcast on “How to Podcast.”

The free event will be around 8pm or 9pm Eastern time on 30 September 2014. You can go to the event at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV7cm1ll7Nw

and Paul is soliciting feedback, as well. If there is anything you want to make sure that he covers on the LIVE event, you can post it in the comments at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV7cm1ll7Nw

 Cross-promotion with Paul Colligan

 Finally, we wanted to thank Paul for giving the podcast show at

www.PodcastReporter.com

a 60-second promotion on his episode 13 of The Podcast Report  (at the end of the episode).

We will be reciprocating in a future episode and give Paul his message as part of our cross-promotion. This is a great and courteous practice for podcasters to alert their audiences of valuable content that is complimentary to their own topics and themes.
