C.C. Chapman, the Podcaster and Content Producer
CC. was one of the individuals who started seriously as an early adopter and content producer and content creator in the area of blogging and podcasting. In fact, he was one of the first 50 podcasters in the world when it all started in 2004-2005. In this episode, he shares his perspectives on the Podcast Industry.
He currently has his flagship podcast, Managing the Gray.
This is the current podcast for CC Chapman, and it has been around for quite a while.
He has also had other various podcast shows. Since December 21, 2004, he finally hit the “record” button from his computer and started recording (since he finally got his iPod (R) ). Thus, he started a music podcast in January, 2005, called Accident Hash. This was a very natural journey, since he had been involved with indie films. This was one of the very first signed podcast (on Adam Curry’s podshow — later called Mevio), and he was one of the several participants who pursued the podsafe music network for podcasters.
And since his podcast exposure grew, he was asked to be a speaker for Podcast gatherings, as well as international events (e.g., in Cologne, Germany, for Podcasting Day in 2005). These were “gigs” with some compensation for public speaking.
And, as an early adopter of podcasting and content creation and content producing, C.C. launched other podcast shows (some of which are on iTunes) — among them The U-Turn Cafe, Cast of Dads and Media Hacks.
CC’s Perspectives on Podcast Industry Trends & Directions
As you will hear in this audio episode, CC Chapman still thinks that podcasting is still a very “niche” format, as opposed to mainstream media, where the niche podcasts still do the best in terms of loyal followers.
Since 2005, the quality of sound — as well as the ease of recording and publishing — has improved so that anyone can push a record button, and then press one other button to publish content to the world of communities. But the content is still the king.
CC’s perspectives on the audience is based on the COMMUNITY or FAN-base of loyal advocates to consume the content, where audio content lends itself to a very intimate engagement with the subscriber or listener.
And CC agrees that podcasting should be CONSIDERED as part of your marketing in your business, if you are an Entrepreneur. The question you must ask yourself is whether podcasting is right for your business — but the evaluation is what is important. .
And this same type of consideration also can be applied to the issue of monetization of podcasting in your business — something that was not so straightforward at the beginning of the podcast community or podosphere.
