0B- Retrospective – Podcast monetization – an interview

During my hiatus, I wish to present this bit of evergreen information about podcast monetization (from 2014), which provides an interview of Fred Castaneda, and which is conducted by Doug Foresta of the Coachzing Show (although Doug himself is on hiatus at present).

Here are the show notes from the interview that was previously conducted by Doug Foresta:

The CoachZing Show is a podcast series, available on iTunes(R) and other directories, which delivers interviews with entrepreneurs, coaches, therapists, authors and speakers — to discover tips and techniques for effective content creation and marketing. It is available on iTunes and other directories, and it is a free podcast show.

Doug Foresta is the interviewer and host of this podcast show.

In this episode, we have a repurposed interview — as it is originally published by CoachZing.com. The reason why we deliver it in entirety and unedited as the final mp3 file published by CoachZing is that the person being interviewed is Fred Castaneda, who is also the host of The Struggling Entrepreneur podcast and the Podcast Reporter podcast (just 2 of the current active 8 shows).

As you will hear in this audio episode, Doug discusses the potential mistakes of content creators in the world of New Media and podcasting. He also discovers some of the strategies for entrepreneurs to make podcasting a successful tool as part of their marketing. They can do this by generating revenue streams by adding podcasting to their marketing.

We thank Doug for his interview and we know it will provide value to the aspiring entrepreneurs who deal with content creation.

78- Perspectives of Podfest conference from Dave Jackson

From an attendee, participant and speaker — i.e., Dave Jackson from The School of Podcasting — we deliver a discussion of his perspectives of the recent Podfest conference in Tampa, Florida, and the value that this event delivered to the attendees and speakers. We get this dialogue direct from the event venue over the phone. Dave informs us of the conference structure, the attendees, the exhibitors, topics and the networking…and much more.  We even discuss whether this conference may become a key, big event for podcasters.

Dave Jackson at PodfestWe recorded this over the telephone with Dave’s audio coming from the speakers of an iPhone, as Skype(R) was giving problems and was unreliable. Thus, the quality coming from Dave is not the same as ours (since our end of the recording was on a set of Zoom(R) condenser mics). We apologize for that, but we had to make concessions with the tools that we had — especially with Dave in a mobile environment at the venue just after the conference program wrapped up and finished.

One other note:  we purposely left the entire discussion UNEDITED — so that you can hear the natural discussion without any artificiality. Well, is that not how a “podcast reporter” should deliver the happenings and perspectives to you, the audience?

As you will hear in this audio podcast, topics that we discussed were following:

– the venue and its suitability for this second annual event;

– the structure: one main ballroom (a single “tract”) for the entire 3 days, instead of multiple sessions running concurrently;

– the estimate of attendees and who they were (i.e., aspiring podcasters, current podcasters, etc.);

– the topics that stimulated interest, excitement, passion and discussion — e.g., monetization, niche areas of passion, etc.

– the exhibitors — who they were, the value delivered to the attendees and the areas they covered;

– the NETWORKING and the buzz during the event, especially in the area of possible partnerships, projects and joint ventures;

– and finally, Dave’s perspective of the possible growth of the event — especially a question of: will this event grow to be the podcast conference for the first half of the year? (even superseding NMX?)

Podfest web site

– the 2 announcements at the beginning of the interview: (1) Dave Jackson has adopted the title of PODCAST MENTOR; and (2) in March, 2016, Dave will be an employee of Libsyn. We wish him well.

You can contact Dave at:

(a) web site and flagship podcast at: www.schoolofpodcasting.com; or

(b) via email at dave @ schoolofpodcasting.com [to avoid spam]

67A- Clarification on episode about Leveraging New apps

CLARIFICATION and CORRECTION

NOTE: This episode delivers a clarification from the preceding episode on Leveraging New Apps like meerkat, periscope and blab.

My apologies for the misunderstanding that was caused by my statements about Dave Jackson and his production of Ask the Podcast Coach podcast show. I want to thank Dave for sending me the correction, and this episode delivers it.

Also, in this episode, we give a brief summary of Gary Leland’s explanation given in a 55-minute video delivered in his subscription-based electronic magazine called Podertainment. The explanation given by Gary is in the October, 2015, issue of the Podertainment magazine.

The corrections have been included in this audio episode, and we recommend that you listen to the entire content.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

63- Your END GAME goals in Podcasting and New Media

Whether you are a podcaster, screencaster, video-content-creator, blogger or ebook author,  we explore in this episode the questions that you need to ask about your current and future “END GAME” goals in New Media, as well as the importance of periodic review and possible revision of them.

podcast_reporter_albumartwork1400

With cases in point and other examples, we investigate these questions (which we suggest that you ask of your New Media assets and deliverables):

1. MONETIZATION goals;

2. EDUTAINMENT goals (that is, Entertainment and/or Education);

3. Goal to build a loyal COMMUNITY;

4. What part of YOURSELF will you put into your podcast or screencast or videocast?

5. Is your goal to help COMMUNICATE and deliver your message?

6. Camaraderie goals from a common experience;

or

7. Goal to participate in a key EVENT within your New Media or Podcast space (e.g., International Podcast Day)?

In fact, we have one case-in-point video that is only a few minutes in length, but can give you the key END-GAME goal for Screencasters who want to raise the value of their skills portfolio to increase their brand, their exposure and their opportunity for success and monetization:

58- Issues that can negatively impact your podcast and business- 2 case studies

podcast_reporter_albumartwork1400There are 2 case studies of actual podcasters who are Entrepreneurs that had to face the problems of health issues — including stress, tension, pressure, anxiety, frustration and “burning the candle at both ends” (leading towards burnout) — which negatively impacted their business, and their lives.

One case study is your Podcast Reporter.

The other case study is our respected Podcast Coach from the School of Podcasting, Dave Jackson.

Both have what we refer to as “wake-up calls.” Both had to deal with the negative impact of these issues. However, only one really facing the dilemma and avoiding the critical problems that can result for self, for business, for family and for life.

We hope that you yourself will be able to recognize the symptoms of being overwhelmed, where you are trying to do more than you have time to do, and thus have these issues.

The FREE resource that is mentioned is an online course that will help you:

– accomplish more,

– in less time,

54- Podcast Movement 2015 Conference – Some reflections

podcast_reporter_albumartwork1400In this episode, there are regrets and apologies, along with reflections from this Podcast Reporter.

Regretfully, I will not be able to attend the Podcast Movement 2015 event due to major health issues, which have been caused by complications resulting from Agent Orange (the toxin used in Vietnam, and which negatively affected the combat infantrymen on the ground when they were in the jungles and rice paddies and mountains in Vietnam and Laos).

So this episode covers the following topics in the theme of REFLECTIONS:

– Having to miss the networking, personal communications and re-energizing and reinforcing the relationships I had with various podcasters that have become good acquaintances and friends. Among them is one of the co-founders and organizers of the Podcast Movement Conference, Gary Leland (he had a booth in 2014 with the old “Podcast Pickle” who is now re-branded as the “Podertainment Pickle”) — for Gary had a booth for his Podertainment Magazine in the exhibit area:

– Having to cancel my live interview scheduled on 31July2015 with Doug Foresta of the CoachZing podcast show;

– Having to miss Paul Colligan’s meetup;

– Having to miss the workshops which I had signed up for earlier;

– Having to miss the exhibits and announcements;

But most of all, HAVING TO MISS THE PODCASTING HALL-OF-FAME ceremony for the inaugural inductees, as well as the Podcaster Awards ceremonies — scheduled for 31 July 2015.

In speaking about the Hall of Fame ceremony that is scheduled for 31 July 2015, the first inductee is the “PODFATHER” himself — Adam Curry.

Adam CurryAs you will hear in this audio episode, we also cover the question of whether the Podcast Movement conference can repeat the success of 2014.

In addition, there is some feedback from other podcasters about the selection of speakers and keynote speakers for this event.

Finally, we recommend that you listen to the following podcasters and their shows AFTER the conference to get summaries of the event and their perspectives:

Paul Colligan and his The Podcast Report;

Dave Jackson and his School of Podcasting;

Todd Cochrane and his New Media Show;

Adam Curry and his No Agenda Show;

Daniel J Lewis and his Audacity to Podcast show.

36- Strategies in combining video, screencasts and podcasts – Dave Jackson discussion

In this episode, we have REPURPOSED a discussion from the podcast show called Skills In Screencasts and Podcasts.  It is about strategies to combine screencasting, audio podcasting and video for an entrepreneur business.

Key to this discussion is the description that Dave Jackson gives us about his business and multiple podcasts.  Dave is one of the very first podcasters in 2005, who is known as “The Podcast Coach” and headmaster of The School of Podcasting show and Premium Membership Site Program.

Dave Jackson on google+ hangout- combination strategy 13Dec14This discussion was recorded during Dave’s session of a google+ hangout (which he provides every Saturday morning at 10:30 Eastern time) called ASK THE PODCAST COACH. This is not only a live video-based google+ hangout on air, but also it is an audio podcast to which you can subscribe in iTunes(R).

ASK-the-Podcast-Coach-on-iTunesAs you will also hear in this audio episode, we also go into a discussion about how you, as a podcaster, screencaster or content creator can incorporate public info and published audio clips (such as from a podcast episode) to discuss themes, topics and issues that were previously talked about by a possible interviewee (but who may be unavailable — e.g., he may be so busy that this individual cannot participate in your show).

We take the example of Dave Jackson and his clip that was used in this episode — and then use this format to create content around the clip. For us, it is almost like having an interview without the interviewee in a live interview.

We also talked about free resources from Lon Naylor that are available from the link of LearnCamtasia.com:

Sign up for the FREE Screencaster’s Toolkit, which will contain:

Ace the Audio screencast; and

Video Settings in Plain English screencast

and other tools.

31- Podcast Platform Audello reviewed by 2 podcasters & a screencaster

Product platforms for podcasting and content creation and publishing have been around for a while. Case in point is the old Podomatic.com site, where a template-driven or wizard-like process allowed a novice user to record audio content, then produce and publish a podcast episode very easily — although there were drawbacks later with portability and management. So these all-in-one platforms are not a new idea, as they originally have been available since 2007.

In this episode, we focus on reviews and opinions from two podcasters and a screencaster about early experiences with the newly available Podcasting platform called Audello.

27- Dave Jackson discusses criteria for NMX speaker proposals

This episode is an interview with Dave Jackson, the new Director of Podcasting for the New Media Expo (NMXLive.com) about the criteria for submitting speaker proposals for the upcoming 2015 conference.

Especially now, with NMX being in the same conference as the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show, it is possible that many more requests, applications and proposals to be a speaker at this event will be submitted by many podcasters.

As you will hear in this episode, Dave delivers (in a candid interview) his criteria to help podcasters become more successful in submitting quality proposals for this event in the Podcast track. Among them are:

– Have great “take-aways” that include good strategies, proof points, cases-in-point, and actionable information;

– Provide new information by avoiding “re-runs” of prior presentations that were made recently at other events like NMX 2014, Podcast Movement, Podcasters Summit, etc.

– Submit your proposal, even if your topic is in a niche or different genre — as all will be considered, both professional and hobby podcasters;

– Be prepared to be considered as a backup or alternate speaker if you are not selected to be one of the main sessions of limited electives;

– Start working on your presentation NOW, as Dave will be following up with the speakers chosen to make sure that they are going to deliver great content;

and there are other criteria, hints and tips.

Dave will try to ensure that the best content is provided and the best value is delivered to the NMX/NAB attendee and the virtual ticket holder that will consume the content.

Please note:

(1) Please submit your proposals directly to the web site at www.NMXLive.com, and NOT to Dave directly, by NO LATER THAN 24 OCTOBER 2014 — this is a HARD DEADLINE.

(2) Dave’s contact information is located at www.SchoolofPodcasting.com, if you are willing to offer assistance or help to Dave in his management of the Podcasting track.

Bonus Episode 5 – Podcaster becomes Change Agent – Case study – Dave Jackson

In addition to being a podcaster, Dave Jackson has become a successful and beneficial CHANGE AGENT in podcasting — he is a success story, which is also the case study for this episode.

As you will hear in this audio episode, Dave Jackson (from the School of Podcasting show) did not plan or set out to be a change agent. He merely told the facts from his experience in helping other podcasters fix their situation and get away from Blog Talk Radio. He has always been vocal about the shortcomings of Blog Talk Radio, and he has been giving constructive criticism by voicing his opinion.

Instead of a confrontation, Dave was thanked by a representative from Blog Talk Radio for his constructive criticism, and now the program is on its way to being improved (of course, with Dave providing review and oversight responsibility).

As you will hear Dave in this audio interview state that not only the podcasting community wins — but everybody wins.

If you want to hear his interview with the representative from Blog Talk Radio, it is episode 422 at http://www.schoolofpodcasting.com/422. You can also look at the archives at the School of Podcasting and go to the epiosde in the March-April, 2011, time frame called “Voicing Your Opinion.”

Also, Dave shares with us his perspectives of delivering content with factual comparisons of programs, products, offerings or shows that need improvement, as well as recommendations for improvements. Political correctness should be avoided, even if to avoid “hurting someone’s feelings.” Otherwise, the podcaster who needs help may not even be aware of the problems that exist — and so how can they be fixed?

 About Dave Jackson:

Dave Jackson is the man behind the School of Podcasting (the original website that teaches people how to podcast). He has been podcasting since 2005 and has over 1000 episodes under his belt. He has been teaching people technology in an fun an entertaining fashion for over 20 years. He has numerous podcast award nominations, and speaks at events all over the country.

He also has a FREE interactive session on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time called Ask the Podcast Coach. Here, Dave will take live calls by telephone and address their questions. In addition, the chat room is very lively, informative and mutually helpful. This live session (on both google hangout and Mixlr) is also recorded and is available as a podcast on iTunes, and it is called Ask the Podcast Coach.
